May 26-27, 2005

Beijing , China

The Theme Workshop 2005 will be held by Microsoft Research Asia from May 26 to May 27, 2005 in Beijing China. It is aimed to facilitate communication, collaboration, and community building around the themes of Gaming & Graphics, Trustworthy Computing, Embedded Systems, and Windows Core Technology.

The two-day workshop, plus an option of a sightseeing to the world acclaimed Chinese attractions, will be filled with Microsoft technology updates and briefings from Microsoft senior staff, presentations of best practices from university faculties, posters session, group discussions, exciting demos and so forth. About 120 attendees in the related fields will be invited to this workshop.

The Theme Workshop is a big gathering of computing innovations, addressing high level computing issues around four themes. Gaming & Graphics Theme is particularly interested in topics around AI technology, graphics, and interactive design for entertainment, and computer game design, games production, game engine, and game programming technologies. The Trustworthy Computing theme focuses on the innovations for research and curriculum around the four areas which we refer to as the "Four Pillars" of Trustworthy Computing: Security, Privacy, Reliability and Business Integrity. With the Embedded Systems theme, Microsoft Research seeks to encourage the state of the art of computer science research and curriculum in Windows embedded technology, such as Windows CE .NET and Windows XP Embedded. The Windows Technology Theme seeks to encourage curriculum innovations around, but not limited to, Windows operating systems and NT architecture.

The invitation for proposals around the above themes was started in January 2005. Part of the workshop is designed to be a get-together of the project owners to demonstrate their quality work and to share the best practice with peers. This will also encourage broad discussions around the separated themes and facilitate related community activities for further collaboration and information sharing.

Microsoft senior researchers and other technical experts will give updates and briefings about the related technologies. Through multiple tracks of presentations and meetings, the workshop will create opportunities for partnership among faculty and between faculty and Microsoft.

The Theme Workshop 2005 provides an opportunity to access to the state-of-art computing technologies and to exchange information and experience with peers around innovations in the related area of focus.
