Academic Symposium Introduction
The 7th annual "Computing in the 21st Century" academic conference will be hosted on Nov. 5th (Saturday) in Hong Kong. The conference is jointly organized by Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). This year's conference theme is "Data Centric Computing" - moving the intelligence, processing, and computing value from applications to the end data to create a data-centric computing paradigm. As with previous years, the distinguished lineup of conference speakers consists of world renowned international scholars and computing experts including a Turing Award recipient, members of the US National Academy of Science, and the National Academy of Engineering. These academic and industrial leaders will share their ideas and vision on the data centric computing trends during various keynote speeches.

Microsoft Research Asia held the first international conference on "Computing in the 21st Century" in 1999, shortly after its founding. This conference represents our aspiration to create an academic exchange to facilitate communications and collaboration between Greater China and international scholars. Due to the great support for this conference, we have succeeded in creating a unique opportunity for computer scientists from the Greater China region to learn from their peers around the world regarding the newest technical advances and trends in computer science.
