Group Overview:

The scope of Trustworthy Systems Group spans security/privacy, decentralized trust, applied cryptography, trusted AI, dependable computing, and other related areas. The group is a part of the Systems and Networking research area in Microsoft Research Asia.

The recent projects of our group members cover several specific directions: blockchain transaction execution, blockchain mining, decentralized incentives, verifiable AI, ASIC acceleration for zero-knowledge proof, Chromium security, and TCP/IP side channel. These projects demonstrate different styles of research — algorithm design, system implementation, formal proof, empirical data analysis, adversarial analysis (i.e., attack and defense) and Internet-scale study. We are looking for self-motivated interns, who are interested in the “trust” aspect of computing, to join us.

Job Description:

The interns will work closely with full time researchers on projects that aim at top-quality publications and/or Microsoft internal impact.

The interns are expected to take a big part in defining research topics and planning their agendas.

The interns are expected lead or contribute significantly to paper writing.

Required Qualifications:

A candidate meeting one or more of the following criteria can be a good match for this position:

  1. A student who is currently in a Ph.D. program, or has a strong desire to be enrolled in a Ph.D. program.
  2. A student who has already published a decent paper, and can articulate the motivation and the main contributions of the paper.
  3. A student who has curiosity about real systems, and has hand-on experiences in analyzing such systems or adding non-trivial functionalities to them.
  4. A student who is in a research group targeting the communities represented by these conferences: S&P, USENIX Security, CCS, NDSS, CRYPTO, SOSP, OSDI, PLDI, DSN, AAAI, NeurIPS.

Required Internship Duration:

At least 3 months.
