Job Overview:

With the emerging smart devices and AI applications, there is a computing paradigm shift from cloud-centric computing to distributed computing on the edge. Heterogeneous and Extreme Computing group conducts world-class research on distributed intelligent computing systems based on heterogeneous hardware.

We welcome students to apply to work with us to do research on the following topics:

  • System optimizations on model inference for mobile and edge devices such as smartphones and IoT devices
  • Model-inference acceleration with new and heterogeneous hardware
  • System optimizations, resource management and scheduling for AI applications
  • DNN model compression and AutoML
  • Security and privacy on user data and models
  • Distributed and collaborative learning
  • New applications of intelligent edge computing (Video, AR/VR, Gaming etc.)

 

Roles & Responsibilities

A research intern is expected to contribute in many ways to the research project, include the following:

  • Define and drive one research project independently
  • Collaborate with researchers and other interns on one project
  • Design and implement system code
  • Optimize existed system code
  • Write a research paper

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Educational background: B.S/Master/Ph.D. candidates from a range disciplines, including CS, EE, Mathematics and Physics
  • Basic System Background: Operation system, Distributed System, Mobile Computing, Edge Computing and Hardware experience is preferred
  • Good programming skills in C / C++, Python / C# / JavaScript / Java are also preferred
  • Good communication skills and excellent teamwork
  • Familiar with Windows, Android and Linux operating systems
  • Experience of developing mobile, GPU and/or FPGA related projects is preferred
  • Knowledge of Network/Computer Architecture is preferred.

 

Required Internship Duration:
At least 3 months, preferable 6+ months
